Cat Nap

3 08 2012

As a cat, I’m expected to sleep at least 16 hours per day.  That’s quite a responsibility, and a good chunk of time, especially when you factor in all the other things that are expected of me in each 24-hour period.  Among my duties is posting an occasional musing on this blog.  Admittedly, this particular duty is a self-imposed, but one that I take very seriously nonetheless. Some days, it comes down to making a choice between taking a nap or cobbling together a blog post.  I must admit that, given such a choice, a nap is going to win every time.  Which reminds me, it’s about time for me to go back to sleep.  See you in my dreams!

Window on the World

21 07 2012

Now that the weather has cooled off I am finally able to breathe some fresh air and clear my head.  This photo shows me in my favorite window on the world — with a nice view of a bird feeder, mulberry tree and lilac bushes.  Lots of birds and rabbits to watch.

I only now realize that I haven’t written a blog post since May.  Fact is, I haven’t had much to say and I’ve been busy with other endeavors.

For one thing, I finally got that garçonnière I mentioned.  Although, as you can see in this photo, it’s not exactly like the one I wanted, but beggars can’t be choosers.

I also briefly considered running for public office, after being inspired by a cat who has been a mayor of a town for 15 years.  After due consideration, however, I tabled that notion.  I just don’t think I’m cut out for a life of public scrutiny, especially since I hide under the bed whenever someone comes to the door.

Hope you’re all having a great summer.  Now I must get back to my window.

What Did I Tell You?

16 05 2012

Seriously, did I call it or what?  Here I am with my birthday gift which is, as I predicted, another stupid cat toy.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the sentiment.  And I think the color goes well with my fur, don’t you?  Best of all, this little green ball had been steeped overnight in extra catnip to give me a special birthday buzz.  Very thoughtful.  Speaking of thoughtful….

Many thanks to all of you who took the time to wish me a happy birthday.  Your kind words made me purr!

They Say It’s My Birthday

7 05 2012

According to legend, I was (probably)  born sometime in May (probably) in the year 2002.  That will make me 10 years old this year.  Quite the milestone, eh?  At our house, my birthday is always celebrated on Mother’s Day — a nice idea, though a bit sentimental, don’t you think?

If I could be granted one wish for my birthday, it would be that all animals could be free to live their lives, and never go hungry, and never be abused in any way.  And that they could know love.  If only wishing could make it so!

Of course I wouldn’t be a cat if I didn’t also want something for myself.  I was thinking it might be quite nice to have my own garçonnière (like the one below) where I could go to take my naps and think deep thoughts, and mostly get away from Mitski.

Most likely, however, I’ll probably just get more stupid cat toys like these:

But I also know I’ll be getting lots of love.  And that’s what’s really important.  Who needs a garçonnière, anyway?

Ready for Anything

25 04 2012

Here I am, ready for anything — if anything ever actually happens.

I can strike at a moment’s notice, even though there’s nothing to strike.

Still, I remain vigilant.

Important Announcement

17 04 2012

So what’s so important?  Why, new catnip toys, of course.

I’m thrilled to announce that recently received two brand new handmade catnip toys.

 (Thanks, Aunt Jannette!)

Now, this may not seem like a big deal to you, but believe me, in Gary World, this is like winning the lottery.

Well, not quite.  But you get the idea.

Thinking Inside the Box

5 04 2012

As a cat who usually thinks outside the box, I thought I’d shake things up and try thinking inside the box.

Change is good.

Gary Does Yoga

27 03 2012

I’m not 100 % sure about this, so don’t quote me, but I think cats invented yoga.  Think about it.  What other animal (human or otherwise) has stretching and poses down to a science the way cats do?

I guess that’s why I take issue with the fact that one of the most popular yoga poses is the Down Face Dog.  Really???  How about the Up Face Cat?  Now that’s a pose I can get into!

Windows on the World

18 03 2012

I apologize for not posting in awhile but I’ve been distracted by other important things like sleeping.  And eating.  And looking out the windows.  Not the window in the above photo — that’s one of my OLD windows in Virginia Beach.

I love to look out windows.  You never know what you’ll see.  The other morning I watched the ducks having their morning swim in the pond as the first rabbits of spring scampered across the grass.  And I thought to myself, “Life is good.”

Then I remembered how sad I was five years ago when we left Virginia Beach because I missed my window near the mimosa tree where bees would buzz back and forth all day.  What I didn’t realize at the time was that there were even better and more fun things to watch outside my new windows, like them:

and him (his name is Noser):

oh, and these guys too:

I think there may be a lesson here somewhere.

Still, it would be quite nice to have a mimosa tree.

Tail Tip

4 03 2012

Today’s Tail Tip:

Always give cats more than they ask for: be it an extra belly rub, scratch behind the ear, or a treat.

It’s a gesture of goodwill that will go far in cementing a lasting relationship.
